Common Spirit Common Ground
a loving comparison of world religions
by local author J. Michael Strange
a 5-Week Exploration of World Religions sponsored by
Written in late 2001, following the destruction of the World Trade Center, when Islamophobia was at what I had thought had reached a peak then, I developed this book as a personal journey of love to find and follow the thread of truth in all religions, to learn to appreciate each other’s differences, and to work toward a healthy, tolerant world. Universal truths are the common threads sewn throughout the fabric of the world’s religions.
Universal tolerance begins with individual compassionate awareness. That is why I subtitled this book “a loving comparison of world religions.” Each session is formatted as follows:
- Introductory comments leading into a 5-minute centering silent meditation
- Presentation material on the topic (about an hour)
- Stretch / Break
- Open Discussion until close
The central assumption is this: What if all religions share a common higher truth? Even if they seem to differ on a superficial level, what are the deeper unifying truths to them all? This series will explore deeper mystical scriptures and writings that express universal truths that guide us in our spiritual evolution – individually and as a species.
